Exporting a CxF/X-4 file from ColorAnt
The Export CxF/X-4 File menu option allows saving spectral data as a CxF/X-4 compatible file. This feature is new in ColorAnt 4.0.
CxF stands for Color exchange Format. CxF files are used to communicate color in a vendor neutral format. CxF/X-4 is an ISO standard (since 2015) and has been designed to define spot colors by measuring and storing spectral information of ink solids and tints, on substrate and process black. This spectral definition allows color management systems to better proof and reproduce spot colors. CxF/X-4 files can also be loaded as a spot color library in ColorLogic ZePrA Smart Color Server.
- Open spectral measurement data of a test chart or any other measurement data with spot colors. The file must have device data (DCS data) and CIE spectral data. Lab data is and spot color measurements without any percentage values are acceptable.
- Select File/Export CxF/X-4 and specify meta data such as Substrate Name, Substrate Type, Print Process and Surface Finishing.
Note: Other applications may take advantage of Metadata
- Entered the names, selections and options from the drop down menus click Start name and save the file.
Understanding the CxF/X-4 Format
CxF/X-4 relates to spot color characterisation only, the full tone of each primary color except black, tints and overprints of the respective color with black are saved.
In other words if you export a full iT8-4 CMYK test chart it ends up with 102 patches for CMY.
Removing Redundant Patches
A feature to automatically optimize and remove redundant color patches is available with the Export CxF/X-4 (to save CxF/X-4 compatible measurement values). If the checkbox Remove Redundant patches is activated all required color patches will be saved only once in the exported CxF/X-4 file, avoiding duplicates.
